TITUSVILLE, Fla. — Teens and parents could be issued warnings and slapped with fines if Titusville leaders pass a juvenile curfew ordinance.
Leaders plan to discuss the ordinance Tuesday night.
A council member said it’s a proactive move, and that there is not an increased crime problem among children and teenagers.
State law leaves decisions about curfews up to city leaders.
If a city passed such an ordinance, state lawmakers recommend targeting children under 16 years old, and said they must be home Monday through Thursday from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
On Friday and Saturday, the recommendation is that that can’t be out without an adult from midnight to 6 a.m.
The first violation could be a written warning and would be followed by a $50 fine.
Parents can be fined as well.
The city of Orlando has a youth protection ordinance that only applies to downtown.
St. Cloud has a teen curfew.
The Titusville City Council will discuss the curfew at its 6:30 p.m. meeting Tuesday.
