TITUSVILLE, Fla. — Tyler “TJ” Wright, a 19-year veteran of the Titusville Police Department, has been selected as the city’s new police chief.
The city announced his appointment Thursday. Wright, who has served in positions ranging from police officer to deputy chief, is expected to assume the role Monday, Nov. 2.
He will oversee public safety operations and community engagement, with priorities that include supporting department personnel, strengthening community partnerships and promoting transparency and accountability, according to the city.
Nearly two decades serving Titusville
Wright graduated from the Brevard Community College Law Enforcement Academy in 2007 and earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration from Columbia Southern University in 2021.
He graduated from the FBI National Academy in 2024 and earned a master’s degree in public safety from the University of Virginia in 2025.
City Manager Tom Abbate pointed to Wright’s experience and relationships within Titusville.
“He knows our neighborhoods, our schools and our people, and he understands that good policing starts with relationships,” Abbate said.
Developing future leaders
Wright said he was honored to be selected and emphasized investing in the department’s personnel.
“Throughout my career, I have always believed that leadership is not defined by the rank you wear or the title you hold, but by the people you serve, the relationships you build and the impact you leave behind,” Wright said.
He said his priorities include developing the next generation of leaders while embracing innovation, accountability and transparency and preparing the department for evolving public safety needs.
