SOUTH FLORIDA — A south Florida father sprang into action when his 2-year-old daughter, Chloe, found a loaded gun in the back of their rental car.
Louis Venuto rented the car from Enterprise car rental for a trip to Cocoa Beach Friday.
When they returned home, Venuto said his daughter found a loaded .45-caliber handgun under the seat while she was picking up her toys.
"We're cleaning it. She goes on the floor and she's picking up action figures off the floor. She must have spotted it," said Venuto.
Venuto said when he turned around to check on his daughter, the gun was in her hand.
"She got quiet. I stopped hearing her, so I just looked over to make sure she was OK, and, that's when I see her holding it," he said.
According to Venuto, his daughter said, "Look what I found."
Venuto said he quickly grabbed the gun.
"This gun could be stolen. This gun could be a murder weapon. I have no idea," he said.
Venuto said he thought it could be fake gun, until he saw the clip. He said there was a bullet in the chamber and the gun did not have a lock.
"All that was stopping this gun from firing was pulling the trigger," Venuto said.
Venuto said he called Enterprise and he was given the run around.
"They must have not cleaned the car or they did it and didn't do a good job," he said.
A spokesperson from Enterprise said the company is investigating the matter.
