, Fla. — I have used the Timekettle LiveTalk AI Translation Earbuds while traveling, and they have become genuinely useful. Instead of repeatedly passing a phone back and forth or typing every sentence into an app, I can hear translations while keeping the interaction closer to a normal conversation.
They have worked especially well for Spanish, which is a language I understand enough to recognize whether a translation captures what someone is trying to say. I have also used them for Chinese, a language I have virtually no hope of learning well enough to navigate on my own. That is where the technology feels less like a convenience and more like a bridge.
No translation device is going to understand every accent, phrase or bit of background noise perfectly. I would not rely on one for a legal, medical or similarly high-stakes conversation. For directions, ordering food and everyday interactions during a trip, however, these earbuds remove a surprising amount of friction.
I review plenty of technology that is interesting but not necessarily useful after the novelty wears off. These have been different. Their value becomes clearest when I travel, which is why they have earned a regular place in my bag.
