ORLANDO, Fla. — Meteorologists are monitoring three areas in the Atlantic for possible tropical development.
Two of the areas have a very low chance of developing, with just a 10% chance of formation over the next seven days.
The third area is a broad area of low pressure located off the coast of Africa.
Forecasters say this system has a much better chance of developing as it moves westward across the Atlantic.
By the end of the week, there is a 60% chance the system could develop into a tropical depression, according to the latest forecast.
Forecasters will continue to monitor the system closely as it crosses the Atlantic and gets a better-defined circulation.
If the system strengthens enough to become a named tropical storm, the next name on the Atlantic hurricane season list is Cristobal.
For now, there are no immediate impacts expected locally, but residents should continue to monitor the forecast as the system develops.
