ORLANDO, Fla. — Just like clockwork, tropical activity in the Atlantic picks up as we tick off the first few days of September, said meteorologist George Waldenberger.

First, there is Danielle, which is a hurricane in the mid-Atlantic. Danielle is very far away and will not be a factor for us as it moves in the direction of Europe.
And Earl is a tropical storm just north of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

While those islands will experience heavy, potentially flooding, rains into the night as a result of Earl, this tropical storm will be moving away from those areas soon.
Tracking northward, Earl is forecast to stay well off our coast as it potentially strengthens into a major hurricane over the next five days.

We should expect to see wave heights build a few feet at our East Central Florida beaches, with Earl in the distant waters.
A third disturbance is moving off the west coast of Africa, with some chance for gradual development as we go through the week.
Severe Weather Center 9 will monitor each disturbance, but there are no threats to Florida from tropical cyclones at this time.

This comes as we are only a week away from what is typically the peak of hurricane season.
