Truck carrying $120K in Hershey's chocolate stolen

DELAND, Fla. — Someone stole a tractor-trailer loaded with Hershey's chocolate, Volusia County authorities said Tuesday.

According to investigators, someone entered a secured area of JD Lewis Trucking Company and stole the tractor-trailer owned by Sunstate Carriers Inc. in Deland.

The truck was last seen on Saturday at 3 p.m., but when workers arrived on Sunday it was gone.

Officials said the truck was carting an estimated value of $120,000 in chocolate.

Officials said there hasn't been a truck theft from the company in over a year.

Several years ago, a theft happened next door at Chris Paquette's trucking company.

"Ours showed up in Miami. There's a pretty good chance that that's where that went, just from our experience," Paquette said.

Statewide, stolen trucks are common and cost tens of millions of dollars a year, according to official records.
