POLK COUNTY, Fla. — Two people died, and two others were seriously injured following a two-vehicle crash on US-17/92 near West James Street in Polk County.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the collision, which occurred on Sept. 19 at 11:55 p.m.
According to state troopers, the incident occurred when a Honda sedan traveling southbound entered the northbound lane and struck a Nissan sedan nearly head-on. All four occupants across both vehicles suffered serious injuries and were transported to area hospitals.
A 41-year-old Davenport man was driving the Honda sedan southbound on US-17/92 when the crash occurred.
The Nissan sedan was driven northbound by a 37-year-old Kissimmee man. Two passengers were traveling in the Nissan: a 34-year-old Winter Haven man and a 45-year-old Kissimmee woman.
The 37-year-old driver of the Nissan and the 45-year-old female passenger later died from the injuries suffered during the crash.
