CENTRAL FLA. — While the tropics have been quiet so far this season, we are monitoring two areas for possible development in the coming days.
The first area is the remnants of Tropical Storm Fay in the north Atlantic.
Showers and storms are increasing with the remnants, and the complex could organize into a tropical depression on Wednesday or Wednesday night.
The National Hurricane Center is now giving this area a 70% chance of development.
The area is expected to move westward but will likely be impacted by upper-level winds and weaken by the weekend.
The second area of interest is located in the eastern Atlantic.
The area, designated Invest 90L, is moving northward toward the Cabo Verde islands.
The invest could organize further and become a tropical depression late week.
Interests in the Cabo Verde islands should monitor the progress of this system.
Neither system will impact Florida or the United States.
Next week, the attention in the tropics will turn to the Gulf.
The Climate Prediction Center is monitoring the southern Gulf for possible activity late September into very early October.
We remain in the peak of hurricane season, and additional areas of interest are possible in the next several weeks.
