ORLANDO, Fla. — The Sigma Nu fraternity at the University of Central Florida has been suspended after a video surfaced of a member chanting the word rape.
The organization is set to have a formal hearing in the coming days.
The alleged incident happened in June.
An incident report said a woman made the recording and shared it with a friend, who then reported the incident to the university.
Documents said the woman was dating a Sigma Nu fraternity member who lived at the house.
The recordings include a member of the fraternity yelling “rape” and encouraging sexual violence toward women.
The fraternity’s national office released a statement calling the recordings “disrespectful, despicable and vile.”
The statement also alludes to an investigation by the state attorney’s office of alleged sexual misconduct.
The hearing is scheduled for Thursday.
