ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The UCF Knights are almost home from Arizona and when they land they’ll have a masisve replica of the Fiesta Bowl trophy in tow, while the real thing stays at the Fiesta Bowl Museum in Scottsdale, Ariz.
It took a lot of effort for the Knights to make it to the bowl game and it took the same kind of hard work to create the elaborate prize.
The 200-pound trophy is rumored to be worth more than a million dollars and stands almost 4 feet tall.
And the UCF Knights wouldn't be able to throw the football around like they did when they beat the Baylor Bears during the Fiesta Bowl game.
It’s 18 carat gold, has 36 carats of diamonds that encrust the stripes and will be attached to a base made of marble.
The team will be shown off on the trophy as well.
The players may have donned white on the field, but on the trophy, they’ll be sporting sterling silver. The dome framework is also silver.
Watching Wednesday’s exciting win was priceless for UCF fans, but there is a hefty price tag on the masterpiece Fiesta Bowl trophy.
It cost a total of $1.2 million dollars and was hand-crafted and donated by Molina Fine Jewelers.
The inlaid compass on the base floor signified the path “In life we choose to lead.”
UCF athletic officials told WFTV their trophy was packed up after the game and it’s not likely it'll be shown off Thursday afternoon.
