Volusia County approves $10.67 million EMS headquarters renovation in Daytona Beach

The project will transform a former automotive dealership into a hub for training and fleet maintenance

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Volusia County Council has approved construction for a new $10.67 million Emergency Medical Services headquarters at 1720 Mason Ave. in Daytona Beach.

The project is transforming a former automotive dealership into a welcoming centralized hub for EMS administration, training, and fleet maintenance. County leaders decided to renovate instead of building anew, which was initially expected to cost around $23 million.

Plans include a second-floor expansion for offices and training space, dedicated fleet-maintenance areas, a new roof, standby power, security upgrades and improvements to the building’s mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire-protection systems.

Federal funding will cover much of the project’s construction costs. Volusia County secured about $6.8 million through a Community Development Block Grant–Disaster Recovery award.

The site will also receive new paving, drainage, utilities and landscaping.

The new EMS headquarters is expected to open in fall or winter 2027.
