VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — More than 70 baby sea turtles made it safely to the Atlantic Ocean overnight with help from Volusia County deputies.
According to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, deputies found dozens of hatchlings on the beach late Thursday after they became disoriented and began crawling away from the water instead of toward it.
Deputies collected the stranded turtles and safely released them into the ocean.
Photos shared by the sheriff’s office show deputies carrying buckets filled with the tiny sea turtles before returning them to the water.
Officials said more than 70 hatchlings were rescued during the overnight effort.
