PONCE INLET, Fla. — A Coast Guard crew assisted four people aboard a disabled fishing vessel Sunday after the boat lost all electronics functionality and suffered an alternator failure about 50 miles off Ponce Inlet.
Sector Jacksonville received the call for help through the vessel’s onboard satellite phone. A boat crew from Station Ponce de Leon Inlet responded and towed the vessel into shallower waters, where it could safely anchor about 10 miles offshore.
Commercial salvage assistance was planned for the following morning. The Coast Guard brought one person from the fishing vessel ashore to help coordinate towing logistics for the next day.
No medical concerns were reported.
