Security measures and road blocks planned for Trump rally

Sheriff urges nonattendees to avoid the area

In a social media post Friday morning, Chitwood and the Volusia Sheriff’s Office urged anyone not attending the rally to avoid the area around the Ocean Center.

“Road closures around the Ocean Center will make travel through the area impossible for an extended timeframe,” the post said.

Specific road closures and their timing had not been announced in the update. The Sheriff’s Office said more details would be posted later today.

“Expect delays and restrictions,” the agency said.

The Sheriff’s Office said it has been working with the United States Secret Service, Daytona Beach Police Department and surrounding agencies to coordinate security and resources for the event.

Officials also asked residents and visitors to remain patient and cooperate with law enforcement.

“Your patience and cooperation with law enforcement during this event is very much appreciated, and will contribute to a safe and secure outcome for our community,” the post said.

What attendees need to know

Anyone planning to attend the rally must RSVP. Doors opening at 3:30 p.m. does not indicate when Trump will speak.

With road closures and security restrictions expected around the venue, attendees should anticipate travel delays. Officials had not provided specific closure locations, reopening times or access routes in the Friday morning update.

Visit comes days before Election Day

The Daytona Beach rally comes four days before the Nov. 3 midterm election.

The Republican Party of Florida also announced a Trump rally at Florida Gulf Coast University’s Alico Arena in Fort Myers that was scheduled for Oct. 23.
