Volusia County parents push for additional increase in high school graduation ticket allotments

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Some Volusia County families say the new four-ticket limit for high school graduations still doesn’t cut it.

The district announced its original two-ticket limit in February, causing an outcry from parents. They announced the increase in ticket allotments on Monday.

Families will be seated 3 feet apart in pods of four, and face masks will be required at the June ceremonies.

While some parents feel increasing the allotment from two to four is a good start, they say that the limited total still leaves out some important family and friends who helped those students get to this point.

School board chair Linda Cuthbert said she would not object to handing out more tickets if COVID-19 numbers continue to decline and it can be done safely.

County chair Jeff Brower said the county is constantly looking at the COVID-19 numbers, and as those continue to decline he’s optimistic that the number of tickets available for graduation could increase.
