VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Volusia County residents have 90 days to comment on or appeal proposed updates to federal flood maps, the Federal Emergency Management Agency announced Aug. 20.
The review period applies to proposed changes to the county’s Flood Insurance Rate Map. County officials are accepting submissions only for properties in unincorporated Volusia County and will forward them to FEMA for review.
Residents and business owners within city limits must submit comments or appeals to their respective municipal governments.
Feedback falls into two categories:
Comments address non-hazard information, such as incorrect municipal boundaries or misspelled road names.
Appeals challenge proposed flood-hazard information and must include technical or scientific data supporting the requested change.
Submissions to Volusia County must include the property owner’s name, full property address and specific feedback.

County officials said local staff did not create or modify the proposed maps and cannot answer questions about specific map details.
The preliminary maps can be viewed through FEMA’s Flood Map Changes Viewer or the FEMA Map Service Center.
Residents with questions about the maps can contact a FEMA Map Specialist at 1-877-336-2627 from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Eastern time.
Comments and appeals submitted during the 90-day period will be sent to FEMA for evaluation before the maps are finalized.
