Records fall as rain pours down on Central Florida

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla,,None — The stormy weather left several cities in Brevard County underwater Saturday in the wettest recorded October day in Melbourne history.

Drivers were forced to turn around or plow through the flooded roads in Titusville neighborhoods. The rain was so heavy that it left portions of the Lamplighter Village mobile home park in Palm Bay under several feet of water. About a dozen could soon be flooded if the rain continues.

“Oh it's a mess! I tell you, I never expected this,” said resident Ligia Fisk.

Authorities blocked off several streets in town including portions of Raney Road where more than a foot of water flooded the roadways.

“The way this thing is flowing it's just, it's not safe,” Fisk said.

It's a familiar sight for residents. In 2008 nearly 50 residents had to be rescued by crews during Tropical Storm Fay.

The storm also damaged part of the building and took down power lines near the Palm Bay Sod Depot. Another source told WFTV that at Patrick Air Force Base it felt like a hurricane came through.

Flooding isn't the only problem. By Saturday afternoon, more than 2,200 customers in Brevard County alone lost power because of the storm.
