WFTV viewer helps police ID Altamonte Springs burglary suspect

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — A man accused of twice burglarizing a store in Altamonte Springs is behind bars after a WFTV viewer helped identify a suspect in the case.

A man wearing a hat and bandanna stuffed batteries and power drills into a bag at City Electric along Sunshine Lane, getting away with merchandise without showing his face.

But Channel 9 viewer Brian Taylor saw the surveillance video in our newscast, and he recognized the getaway car as one he sold three months ago.

Brian Taylor said he knew there was something fishy about William Shea Scott when he sold the 38-year-old a white Honda Accord three months ago.

"It was just a suspicion at first, just wasn't getting a good feel for him," said Taylor. "I knew it was the car. After seeing him and seeing the car, there was no doubt in my mind."

Talyor called Altamonte Springs police and over the weekend, and deputies finally spotted Scott in northern Seminole County and arrested him on an outstanding warrant.

Detectives said they found he sold the stolen items to a pawn shop. He has since been charged with dealing in stolen property.

"People do what's right, and society as a whole will be a better place," said Taylor.

Several other agencies are now also looking at Scott in crimes across Central Florida.

Taylor is being recommended for the police department's Good Samaritan award.
