Deadly Titusville house fire under investigation

TITUSVILLE, Fla. — A woman was killed in a Titusville house fire late Monday afternoon, according to authorities.

A neighbor called 911 after seeing flames coming from the home on Thornton Avenue shortly after 4 p.m.

"I could see smoke coming out, and I ran over because I saw a car there, and I wasn't sure if anyone was in there," neighbor Cindy Watkins said.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was found in the home after firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze.

"The husband was really shaken up and just in shock and distraught," neighbor Arianna Anderson said.

Crews said they couldn't get inside to fight the fire because of the amount of things accumulated in the home. The clutter, coupled with the hot weather, made battling the blaze more difficult. It took crews two hours to get the fire under control, authorities said.

"It's just plum chock full, there's no doors, there's no front doors. It's like a little fortress. I couldn't get in, I'm sure they couldn't get in," Watkins said.

Fire investigators remained at the scene for hours as they worked to determine the cause of the fire. At one point, an arson dog was brought to the home to help search for clues.
