Woman says she caught Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll in "compromising position" with female aide

FLORIDA — WFTV found out about a court filing that claims Florida Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll had a sexual relationship with a female aide.

The former staffer who said she walked in on the two women is also claiming she was later targeted by them because of what she saw.

The allegations that Carroll had an inappropriate relationship with former travel aide, Beatriz Ramos, first surfaced on Thursday.

It all stems from a 16-page court filing in the case of Carletha Cole, a former web designer for Carroll.

WFTV also learned that when Cole was fired, she leaked an illegal recording that was supposed to expose chaos in the office. She was arrested and charged with a felony.

But Cole's attorney claimed she was targeted by Carroll and Ramos because she caught the two in a "compromising position."

After the alleged incident, Cole said she was harassed and Ramos purposely set her trash can on fire.

"The State Attorney's Office should conduct a real investigation, ask real questions about the arson and determine whether or not it was inadvertent or intentional," said attorney Steven Webster.

In a report, Ramos admitted to starting the fire, but claimed it was an accident and happened after she threw her cigar in the trash.

Four days after the fire, Ramos told her story to a Florida Department of Law Enforcement agent.

No charges were brought against her, the evidence was destroyed and the case was closed, WFTV learned.

FDLE issued a statement in regard to the investigation.

"With the responsible party stepping forward and absent any other evidence or suspicious circumstances, we found her statement credible and determined this to be an accident," said FDLE Director of Communications Gretl Plessinger.

Carroll has denied all claims of the alleged relationship, saying, "They aren't even allegations, they're outright lies."
