Workers hired to redo troubled Titusville golf course still not paid

TITUSVILLE, Fla. — Workers hired to redo a golf course in Titusville said they haven’t been paid since July.

Royal Oak used to be a pristine golf course, but over the last few years, it has been in shambles.

People who live along the course got some good news this year; the golf course would be fixed up.

Ryan McMann said he was hired to trim and remove dozens of trees along the course.

“I have it 75 percent done. All I have to do is pick up, but they won’t pay me, so I can’t pick up,” he said.

He was paid $750 to start, but hadn’t seen a dime since.

“I’m out of a lot of money,” McMann said.

Dave Sledd said he mowed 120 acres and he still hasn’t been paid for the work, which he started July 16.

“We had already finished the job when I realized we probably weren't going to get paid. We were already done because we had two weeks of work in there, and that's when they said they were having a problem with the investor and that they would have the money in a couple of days,” he said.

One of the men in charge of Royal Oak is Frank Johnson.

Johnson said he could not comment on the pay issues, but it working to secure more financing.

He said help and to pay the workers in the next 10 to 14 days.

But the contractors said that’s the same story they’ve been hearing for months.

“He shook our hand and promised, and stood here straight to our face and promised we would be paid and did not pay us,” Sledd said.

The course is supposed to open in November.
