PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — 41-year-old Hank Croslin Sr. swears he doesn't know what happened to Haleigh Cummings.
"I know my daughter and son didn't hurt Haleigh. My heart goes out to Haleigh's parents, Ronald and all of them. I don't know what happened that day. I still don't know what happened," explained Croslin.
The Croslin name has become synonymous with the missing six-year-old, now presumed dead by investigators.
Croslin says the case has destroyed his family.
"They didn't hurt that baby. That's the one thing I can tell you, neither one of them has the heart to do that. It's like the whole world has condemned us, and we didn't do nothing," said Croslin.
Croslin's children remain in jail on unrelated drug charges. He said he speaks to them when he can.
The family doesn't like to discuss the case over the phone because they know the calls will be made public.
"She just cries and says, 'mom, I don't want to be in here forever', but like I told her, there's nothing I can do," said Croslin.
For five months, Croslin and his 40-year-old wife Lisa have lived in a boarding house and are unemployed. They say no one will hire them because of their name and reputation.
"You live one day at a time; you just hope you can make it through that day," said Croslin.
When asked if he believes his daughter will be vindicated, Croslin seemed confident.
"I think they'll be found innocent, yeah, of not harming her. I don't know what happened, what they know or what happened, but I know either one of them didn't hurt that baby."
