FLORIDA — Hours before it was set to expire, Gov. Ron DeSantis issued an order Monday extending the ban on evictions and mortgage foreclosures for residents who have been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The previous order, set to expire Tuesday, has been extended until Oct. 1.

The relief is only temporary. Residents will be responsible for making their payments once they’re no longer impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The order defines “adversely affected” as loss of employment, diminished wages, or other reduced income during the Florida State of Emergency preventing the resident from making payments.
