Police: Man Beaten To Death Over $20

CLERMONT, Fla. — Investigators say a Clermont man was beaten to death over $20. His accused killer is now facing murder charges.

Brian Underwood was beat up at a party Thursday night at Clinton Scarbary's home. According to police, Scarbary accused Underwood of taking $20 at the party, then he started swinging.

"The suspect basically started beating him, punching him, and didn't want to stop and caused severe head injuries," said Brent Joyner with Clermont Police Department.

Investigators say nearly two dozen people at the party witnessed the attack in the front yard and no one did anything to stop the fight. Detectives say it is possible some of the witnesses could face charges.

Police say Underwood was put into a room inside the house for more than three hours before someone drove him to the hospital. He was hospitalized with a severe skull fracture, broken nose and cuts on his face. He died early Tuesday morning with his mother by his side.

"No one sat there and watched me hold my son to take his last breath. None of these vultures did," said Kathy Pike, Underwood's mother.

Eyewitness News found out Scarbary has a long criminal history, including charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery and drugs.
