U.S. Rep. Val Demings will serve another term representing U.S. House District 10 after coming out on top in Tuesday’s general election.
Demings has represented Florida’s 10th Congressional District since 2017. Before that, Demings served the Orlando Police Department for 27 years she made history as the department’s first female police chief.
Since being elected, Demings has emerged as a leading voice within the Democratic party, including being selected as house manager in President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial.
She is also leading the House’s push for criminal justice reform and increased accountability from law enforcement, saying reporting of use of force data should be national and mandatory.
Earlier this year, the congresswoman made the shortlist of candidates to be Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s running mate before he ultimately chose Sen. Kamala Harris to join the ticket.
