DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Despite receiving just over half the total votes in Tuesday’s election for Daytona Beach Mayor, current Mayor Derrick Henry will have to face a recount before he can be named the official winner.
On Thursday, the Volusia County Canvassing Board ordered the recount to take place Friday, August 21, at the Volusia County Department of Elections on Woodland Blvd. in DeLand.
The initial unofficial results of the mayoral race had Henry far ahead of his two challengers, Sherrise Boyd and Ken Strickland, with 50.1% of the vote.
However, the recount is needed because Strickland, at 31%, with Boyd at 19%, combined to come within less than half a percent of Henry’s total.

According to the supervisor of elections, If a mechanical recount indicates that an additional manual recount is required, the manual recount will begin after the machine recount.
