VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla.,None — Late last night, police say two men were killed all because a robbery in the Cedar Highlands community on Gertrude Court.
Audrey Fordham says the shooting is an example of how the neighborhood she loves has changed since the 70's when her family first moved here.
"It's kind of always been a safe area, but now we starting to see the uppeak of the police having to come a lot," said Fordham.
Police had to come out last night when 20-year-old De'Angelo Lee jumped into the backseat of a car and demanded money and cell phones from the driver and passenger.
The passenger, 21-year-old Sean Hatter told police all hell broke lose when Lee and the driver, 22 year-old David McCants, started shooting at one another.
"Obviously, no matter what the circumstances are, somebody's son, brother, or father isn't coming home tonight," said Michael Chitwood, Daytona Beach Police Chief.
Police were on scene minutes later and found out McCants was killed and Lee, who ran away behind a home, collapsed and died.
"It's been a good neighborhood and for some reason things are starting to change, so hopefully we can get a handle on it," said Chitwood.
