MARION COUNTY, Fla. — A State Trooper with the Florida Highway Patrol was fired at Thursday afternoon during a pursuit of a vehicle suspected of being involved in a previous shooting.
According to FHP, the trooper was notified about the initial shooting incident in downtown Ocala around 3 p.m. Thursday.

The trooper made contact with the suspect vehicle, described as a silver Nissan sedan, as it left a parking garage nearby.
According to FHP, the trooper attempted to get the driver to get out of the car, but they ignored his commands and sped away.
The trooper began a pursuit during which a passenger in the suspect vehicle fired multiple shots back at the trooper and his patrol car.

The trooper wasn’t injured, but the suspect vehicle was able to get away and remains at-large.
The Ocala Police Department is investigating the initial shooting incident.
