Still No Motive In Orange Co. Murder-Suicide

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla.,None — The Orange County Sheriff's Office is still looking for answers in a murder-suicide over the weekend. Deputies say 24-year-old Ryan Scurlock killed 21-year-old Jennifer Roqueta and then drove to a gun range and shot himself.

Orange County investigators are still trying to piece together a timeline and motive in the case, but whatever investigators find, for some, Roqueta's murder will never make sense.

The sheriff's office offered no explanation Monday for the murder of Roqueta or the suicide of the man who investigators say took her life, but there may never be an answer that could satisfy those who knew her.

"No one saw this coming. It was just a shock to everybody," friend Antuan Mosley said.

Mosley knew Roqueta from her time working at Buffalo Wild Wings in the Waterford Lakes area. The 21-year-old Pembroke Pines woman was also an accounting major at UCF; she enrolled in the summer of 2007.

Another former co-worker told WFTV Roqueta and Scurlock dated for a time, but were no longer together.

"She always talked about things she wanted to do with her life and I respected her for it," the former co-worker told WFTV.

For all of Roqueta's aspirations, Scurlock's life was apparently moving in another direction. His roommates didn't want to talk about him Monday, but WFTV learned that, on Saturday, Scurlock texted several messages that he was distraught.

Deputies arrived in east Orange County to check on Scurlock, only to learn he'd shot himself at the Shooting Gallery gun range on 39th Street. Their investigation led them to Roqueta's Polos East apartment complex on Woodbury Drive.

"We all have to be loving and supportive of the family. My heart goes out to them as well," Mosley said.

WFTV asked the sheriff's office if it would classify Roqueta's death as domestic violence, but that determination hasn't been made yet. This is, however, the third murder-suicide Orange County has investigated in recent months.
