MUG SHOTS: 7 Dancers, Club Manager Arrested AT THE SCENE: Eight Arrested In Cocoa Strip Club Raid EXPLICIT RAW VIDEO: Women Led Away In Cuffs
A total of eight people were arrested (mug shots), including the manager of the Playmates club, off East Industrial Road in Cocoa (see map). They're accused of dancing totally nude, and police say some offered sexual favors for money.
Cocoa police say they've been investigating the bar for the past two months. Investigators say their phones were ringing off the hook after residents started seeing nude women spill into the parking lot.
In July, undercover officers walked into the place and said they found out, for $20, they could get anything. They say strippers were dancing nude and even offering sex to customers.
"We also got information on drugs and other illegal activity going on here, so we needed to do this raid to find out what was going on," said Barbara Matthews of the Cocoa Police Department.
Cocoa police say, just a few months ago, the city and Playmates agreed in writing what the women were allowed to do. Many of the women claimed they didn't know they weren't supposed to dance nude, but investigators say they knew exactly what they were doing.
City code enforcement says it found unsafe conditions inside the building, which is why it has been shut down until the Fire Marshall can inspect it.
This isn't the first time "Playmates" has run into trouble. In August of 2009, police found out a 15-year old and 17-year old were dancing there. The club's attorney said, when the girls applied, they provided IDs showing they were old enough. But Cocoa code enforcement couldn't close the club for letting underage girls on stage unless it had two prior criminal convictions and Playmates had none.
