Students Arrive To Find School Shut Down

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — Students arrived at the Galiano Career Academy in Seminole County on Monday, only to find that their school had been shut down.

A sign posted on the door told students the federal government closed the school, and that "God says we must forgive".

"God will take care of it. He won't take care of my bills and my kids," said one angry student, Tania Escudero.

Escudero graduated last month, has no degree, and was told she'll be billed for tuition in a couple of months.

She received a Pell grant, but has never seen a dime of it.

WFTV reported in February when the school was raided by federal agents; then students were told school officials had kept grant money that was supposed to go to the students.

WFTV tried to contact the owner of the school, Michael Galiano, on Monday night, but all listed numbers for him had been disconnected. There was no answer at the home address listed for the owner.

The Department of Education told Eyewitness News it's working with Michael Galiano, and that there will be another sign posted on the door on Tuesday with phone numbers directing students to who they need to talk to.

The Florida Department of Education also said it is working with Michael Galiano and will take care of the students.

Any students with questions can contact the Florida Department of Education at 850-245-3200, or the U.S. Dept. of Education at 800-872-5327.
