Suspected serial robber in police custody

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Deputies arrested a man who they say is connected to several robberies in East Orange County.

Deputies said they caught Felix Javier Munoz during a robbery in process outside the Chase Bank near Goldenrod Road and Curry Ford Road.

They said they noticed Munoz holding someone up at the ATM outside the bank.

At about 5:00 a.m., 69-year old Sergio Ortiz pulled up to the Chase bank and withdrew $100 from the drive-thru ATM. That's when a white van sped up and blocked Ortiz's car, investigators said.

Authorities said the robber pointed a gun in his face and yelled at him to "give up the money."

"Sometimes I walk up here by myself, honestly to the bank, and thinking about somebody robbing my money, that makes me real uncomfortable," said resident Craig Way.

Ortiz gave Munoz a couple of dollars, and then put the car into reverse and took off.

Deputies said they saw Munoz leave the bank so they followed him and arrested Munoz in the parking lot.

Deputies said they searched him and found a pellet gun in his possession.

Employees inside the bank said they did not even know what was happening outside.

Deputies said Ortiz was not injured.

Munoz is believed to be responsible for multiple robberies in east Orange County, investigators said.

"It definitely makes you feel unsafe, makes you wonder what is going on in the area to make someone want to do something like that," said Orlando resident John Lucas. "I mean, that's crazy. It's good to have them off the street, you know?"

Deputies said they are conducting line-ups for the robberies.
