Swimmer Drowns Near Indialantic

INDIATLANTIC, Fla. — A man drowned Monday near Indialantic, officials said. The man was seen floating just before noon near Paradise Beach. An off duty paramedic tried to save him, but it was too late.

Around noon, Paradise Beach Park was packed with police and Brevard County sheriff's deputies.

"I saw the sheriff walking up and down the beach and he was asking if anyone knew a male guy about 45 missing," said John Belliveau, eyewitness.

The man was found face down in the ocean by an off-duty paramedic, who swam the man to shore. He was eventually helped by lifeguards on the beach who said the man was without a pulse when they got to him.

The man was later taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"No one wants to lose a loved one, especially drowning it's terrible," Belliveau said.

No one knows exactly what happened to the man before he was found motionless in the water.

"I've been in the ocean my entire life and all it takes is one gulp and that's why you should always stay with people and never go alone," Belliveau said.

Investigators said the victim was alone at the beach, and without I.D.
