VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla.,None — Testimony started Thursday in the murder trial of two people accused of killing a 13-year-old boy. Lloyd Robinson Jr. was shot in the face in 2009, during a botched home invasion robbery in Daytona Beach.
Carine Doctor and Ronald Roscoe are accused of killing Lloyd Robinson Jr. at his father's front door in July 2009.
It was a difficult day in the courtroom. The boy's father testified in court Thursday. Some family members had to walk out while Lloyd Robinson Sr. described how his son died in his arms.
"My son died right in my arms," he said.
Robinson Jr. was in Daytona Beach for the summer to spend time with his dad. But a 4:00am knock at the door that prosecutors said came from Doctor, set in motion a chain of events that ended the boy's life.
Tina Hamilton, Robinson Sr's long-time girlfriend, described what happened when the gun shots woke her up.
"I heard a bang, and I got up, and by the time I got up, Poochie had walked in the room and said, 'Momma I been shot,'" Hamilton said.
Hamilton testified as well Thursday. She never heard the knock that woke the boy.
However, Lloyd Robinson' Jr. did wake his father up, who then went to the door to answer it.
"There was a woman's voice saying, 'Brandon, Brandon, it's me, you know me, its Michelle open up the door,'" Robinson Sr. said.
When he did finally open it a crack, he saw a man with a gun. Prosecutors said that was Roscoe, who in an attempt to get in to rob the home, fired two shots.
One of the bullets hit the teen in the chin, neck and chest.
"I was afraid he was dying. I put my hand on his heart, his heart stopped. He made a final twitch and my son died in my arms," Robinson Sr. said.
Robinson Sr. could not identify the man and woman at the time of the crime, and did not in testimony Thursday either.
Defense attorneys for Doctor said there will never be any evidence that she fired a shot, or even owned a gun. Three other people charged in the case, part of the robbery crew, are expected to testify against Doctor and Roscoe.
