MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Weeks after announcing store closings and liquidation sales, discount store chain Fred’s announced Thursday that it will be closing another 104 stores.
The Memphis-based chain said in a statement that the newest round of closures is part of its ongoing effort to "rationalize its store footprint." Liquidation sales at the affected stores will begin Thursday and continue through the end of June, when the chain aims to close the stores.
"These additional store closures are a difficult, but necessary step in the continued restructuring of Fred's," said Fred’s CEO Joseph Anto.
Once the stores close, Fred's will have about 300 locations left, CNN reported.
