Police: Driver clocked at 117 mph uses 'late for work' excuse

MASON CITY, Iowa — Police in Iowa want to remind drivers that being late for work is never an excuse for speeding.

The Iowa State Patrol posted on Facebook that one of its officers pulled over a driver Monday morning who was clocked at 117 mph. The post reads: "Late for work on a Monday morning is no excuse to drive 117 mph. The Iowa State Patrol reminds drivers to obey all posted speed limits!"

According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, the fastest speed limit in Iowa is on rural interstate highways, where the posted speed limit is 70 mph.
