BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. — Authorities are investigating after Alabama sheriff’s deputies discovered 116 pounds of methamphetamine hidden in an SUV aboard a car hauler.
According to WPMI and WKRG, the incident occurred at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday on Interstate 10 eastbound in Baldwin County, where deputies spotted a car hauler with an Illinois license plate.
Deputies said the drugs were stored in “factory voids” inside the SUV, which the hauler was transporting from Los Angeles to Orlando, Florida, according to the post.
“Deputies noticed irregularities about a 2003 Ford Expedition being transported and decided to investigate further,” the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a Facebook post Thursday. “A consent search of the Expedition was conducted and approximately 116 pounds of ICE Methamphetamine was located inside the vehicle.”
Deputies seized the meth, which was valued at about $500,000, and released the driver of the hauler, officials said. The investigation is ongoing.
