CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. — Four people have been arrested in connection with the death of a 2-month-old baby who suffered from methamphetamine toxicity, a Florida sheriff’s office announced last week.
According to WTVT and WFLA, investigators with the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshals arrested Kevin Courtney, 25; Stephanie Carroll, 25; Steven Gibson, 52; and Tammy Allison, 44, on charges of aggravated child manslaughter and child neglect, authorities said Sept. 9.
The news came nearly six months after deputies responded to a report of an unresponsive infant at an Inverness home March 13, the news outlets reported. The baby was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, authorities said.
“From the [medical examiner’s] report, it was determined that methamphetamine toxicity contributed to the victim’s death,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.
The four suspects, who all lived in the home, admitted that they had used the drug around three children, including the infant, the post said. The other children are now in a family member’s care, WTVT reported.
In addition to the other charges, Gibson and Allison are accused of maintaining a dwelling for the purposes of using a controlled substance, according to the Facebook post.
