The winning numbers for the $516 million prize were drawn Friday night. They were 6, 9, 17, 18 and 48, plus gold Mega ball No. 8. The jackpot value is based on actual ticket sales.

It’s the ninth largest jackpot awarded since the game began in 2002, and the third time a Mega Millions jackpot ticket was sold in Pennsylvania since the state joined the game in 2010.

A Pittsburgh man won $149 million May 20, 2014. A Virginia truck driver won a $153 million jackpot on a ticket he purchased July 21, 2015 on his way through Pennsylvania.

Officials said one other person has won the Mega Millions jackpot so far this year. On Jan. 22, a group of players in Michigan claimed the then-$1.05 billion prize. That jackpot was the second highest in the game’s history, behind the $1.5 billion prize won in October 2018 by a player in South Carolina.

The Mega Millions jackpot has been rolling since Feb. 16, when the grand prize was last won in New York. At the time, the jackpot was $96 million. The jackpot for the next drawing, Tuesday, was reset to the starting value of $20 million.
