U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers recently thwarted a substantial methamphetamine smuggling attempt at the Pharr International Bridge Cargo Facility in Texas.
According to a news release, the officers encountered a commercial tractor-trailer arriving from Mexico, inside which they discovered 1,200 individually wrapped packages containing suspected meth.
The June 17 bust netted nearly 311 pounds of the suspected narcotic with an estimated street value of $4.3 million, the agency stated.
“Our CBP officers relied on their experience and all available tools and resources to help thwart this smuggling attempt,” Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry Director Carlos Rodriguez stated.
The agency seized both the narcotics and the tractor-trailer, while the case remains under investigation by Homeland Security Investigations agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
