Tom Hanks is no longer only an American treasure. He now belongs to Greece too.
Hanks and his wife, actress Rita Wilson now are honorary citizens of Greece.
The Hollywood couple and their children were actually given the honor last year after Hanks raised awareness about fires that killed more than 100 people near Athens, CNN reported.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the prime minister of Greece recently posted a photo to Instagram showing Hanks and Wilson holding their new Greek passports, USA Today reported.
Wilson is part Greek. Hanks converted to Greek Orthodox. They own property on the Greek island of Antiparos.
