Volusia Deputy Arrested For Domestic Battery

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla.,None — A Volusia County Sheriff's deputy has been suspended after being arrested for domestic battery late Saturday night, according to officials with the sheriff's office.

56-year-old Michael Stott, a deputy who works in the DeLand courthouse, was charged with misdemeanor domestic battery after an incident involving his wife.

Deputies say they were called to a DeLand home around 11:30 p.m. for a domestic disturbance. Investigators told WFTV Stott, who was off-duty, and his wife had been drinking alcohol with a group of friends when an argument ensued between the couple.

Officials say Stott's wife, identified as Rosa Fernandez-Stott, told deputies her husband was accusing her of being flirtatious with another man. Deputies say the argument became physical when Stott allegedly pushed his wife to the ground.

That's when deputies responded and subsequently arrested Stott.

A police report says that when Rosa Fernandez-Stott learned her husband would be arrested, she would not give a statement regarding the incident and insisted she did not want to press charges.

Officials with the Volusia County Sheriff's Office say Stott has been suspended pending further investigation. He has been employed with VCSO for 15 years.
