WFTV Obtains Video Of Cruise Ship Brawl

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — WFTV obtained video of a brawl that forced a cruise ship captain to throw off nearly a dozen passengers from the Carnival Dream in Mexico earlier this month. The ship is based in Port Canaveral and a former passenger e-mailed video of the fight that was posted on YouTube.

CRUISE SHIP FIGHT: Watch Video

Just about everyone who gets on board a cruise ship these days brings a video camera with them, so it was only a matter of time before video of a fight that got ten people tossed from the ship ended up on the Internet.

The music inside the disco was replaced with yelling and whistling. A passenger on board the Carnival Dream earlier this month recorded the brawl inside the Caliente Disco. Passengers and ship staff tried to break it up, but it continued into other areas.

One person, who appeared to be injured, was shown in the video lying on the dance floor and someone called out for medical help.

A second recording captured the fight in an area filled with cocktail tables. Ship staff, at one point, tried to get the passenger to stop recording the fight.

One passenger wrote to WFTV saying they had complained about disturbances beginning on the first night of the cruise and didn't believe the cruise ship did enough to keep the peace until the fight broke out.

At the direction of the ship's captain, the next day ten passengers that Carnival says were involved in the fight were led off the ship in Costa Maya Mexico and the cruise line made arrangements to fly them back to the United States.

Other passengers are now saying they want some kind of compensation, including refunds, for being subjected to what they described as chaos. Carnival Cruise line told WFTV the safety and security of their guests and crew is of the utmost importance and they wouldn't tolerate behavior that could put any of them at risk. They added that they will not be compensating any passengers who were on the ship as a result of the fight.
