Isolated late storms for parts of Central Florida; Saharan Dust arrives later this week

ORLANDO, Fla. — Temperatures are expected to remain pretty hot for Orlando and Central Florida throughout the week.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Temperatures will stay in the mid-90s.
  • Rain and storm chances are limited, with a 30% chance, mainly happening over Osceola and Brevard counties late Monday afternoon.
  • Evening temps will drop to the mid-70s.
  • Throughout the week, temps will sit around the mid-90s.

EYE ON THE TROPICS: Subtropical Depression 4 forms over the northern Atlantic, moves away from the U.S.

Expect the rain chance to increase starting tomorrow. The heat will spark the sea breeze across Central Florida and storm chance increases for our entire area. Storms will mainly be focused in the afternoons across inland locations.

These are the typical summer afternoon storms that can cause damaging wind gusts, small hail, and torrential rains, leading to minor flooding in a short time.

SAHARAN DUST ARRIVES: DUSTY LONG TERM FORECAST

Expect a plume of Saharan Dust has travelled thousands of miles from the Saharan Desert in Africa to the Western Hemisphere. The Caribbean is under a think layer of Saharan Dust, which has caused the skies to be very dusty.

Dust, not as thick as the one in the Caribbean but still noticeable, will make it to Central Florida by the end of the workweek into next weekend. Dust will limit storm coverage and will bring still hot temperatures.

Saharan dust will turn the skies milky and provide beautiful sunrises and sunsets. If you suffer from respiratory issues this dust could make your asthma, or allergies worse. Limit your time outdoors to limit respiratory problems.
