BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Several boats were left stranded in the waters of Brevard County following Hurricane Matthew.

A tow boat crew spent the day on the Banana River picking up boats damaged by Friday’s hurricane.

“That side - you see the damage on, that side? There’s water. Oh, there’s people there,” tow boat captain Sean Steinberg said.

The boat smashed into rocks along the side of the river and took on water. The two women inside the boat said they didn’t want any help.

Duane Balkema’s boat sank during the hurricane. He told Channel 9’s Mike Manzoni he tied up the boat, but it wasn’t enough.

"I was very shocked and surprised to see it in the water. All that was sticking out when the water was up, was the nose," Balkema said.

The tow crew pumped water out of the boat and used large airbags to help lift the boat.
