2 killed in separate crashes on Florida’s Turnpike in Orange County

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Two people were killed in two separate crashes along Florida’s Turnpike in Orange County Monday.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, in the first crash the driver of a pickup truck heading southbound on the Turnpike near State Road 429 hit another car that had stopped in the right-hand lane.

Troopers say the female driver of the car died at the scene, while the driver of the pickup had minor injuries.

In the second crash, a Road Ranger was assisting emergency crews with traffic from the first crash when his truck was hit by a car that failed to slow down.

Troopers said the car ran over several traffic cones before crashing into the officer’s truck.

Troopers have not released the names of either driver killed and say the causes of both crashes are under investigation.

FHP reminds drivers that January is Move Over Month.

Florida law requires drivers to move over a lane for stopped law enforcement, emergency, sanitation, and utility service vehicles.
