MIAMI, Fla. — More than 60 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units are responding after a cargo plane overran a runway and struck multiple vehicles near Miami International Airport Sunday afternoon.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said crews arrived to find the aircraft on fire, with heavy flames and smoke visible. Firefighters were working to extinguish the blaze and assess patients as of a 3:25 p.m. update.
The aircraft was an Amazon cargo plane arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and overran the runway around 2 p.m., according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The incident temporarily disrupted air traffic at Miami International Airport.
Officials have not yet released information on the number or severity of any injuries.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said the aircraft struck multiple vehicles after leaving the runway.
