ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando International Airport is receiving several flight diversions from Miami International Airport following Sunday afternoon’s plane crash near MIA.
Angela Starke, senior vice president of public affairs for the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, confirmed the diversions to Channel 9 Sunday afternoon.
“This is still an active incident but yes, Orlando International Airport is receiving several diversions from Miami International Airport due to the incident that occurred there this afternoon,” Starke said.
The diversions come after a plane overran a runway and struck multiple vehicles near Miami International Airport before catching fire.

MCO asks passengers to check with airlines
Starke said passengers diverted to Orlando should work directly with their airline to determine how they will reach their final destination.
“We encourage everyone who has been diverted to MCO to work with their airline to reach their destination and ask that all passengers have patience during this period,” Starke said.
MCO is also asking outbound passengers to check with their airline before heading to the airport to make sure their flight remains on schedule.
Officials have not said how many flights have been diverted to Orlando.
The situation remains active, and additional flight impacts are possible.
