TAVARES, Fla. — Deputies are investigating whether Tavares Mayor Robert Wolfe fired a gun in the couple's bedroom during a drunken argument.

Sharon Wolfe, the mayor's wife, was accused of striking her twin sister, then violating an injunction to stay away from her. The mayor supported his wife, but was accused of hitting his wife at a Buster Tubbs Wednesday.

Sharon Wolfe walked a block to the Tavares police station and gave a written statement in which she also accused her husband of shooting a gun in their bedroom, and that he pushed her while he was drunk.

Sheriff's deputies were called to investigate to avoid a conflict of interest, officials said.

Deputies said they plan to talk to Robert Wolfe to get his side of the story.

The manager at Buster Tubbs said there is no security video from inside the bar. Two witnesses said they saw the Wolfes arguing, but they did not see any violence.
